TerraCana gets called.
TerraCana is a specialist foundation company working in both the remedial and new construction markets. We often work alongside engineering companies when they come across foundation issues that need a solution. In many cases they ask us to assist. Often we are simply given a foundation plan and the loads provided by the engineers, and the request is to provide a solution that will work for the site conditions.
TerraCana has been in business for over 30 years. We pride ourselves on being experts in the types of foundations that we install. We do not try to install every type of foundation system. Instead, we focus on the ones where we have real expertise and field experience.
Most of the work we do exists outside the normal realm of conventional construction. In many situations, building a foundation is straightforward. You excavate down to firm bearing soil, place concrete, and construct the foundation.
However, when the conditions are different, the approach changes. Sometimes it may be 20, 30, 40, or even 50 feet before reaching competent ground. In other cases, soil conditions prevent conventional construction methods.
When those challenges appear, different foundation solutions are required to properly support the structure. That is where TerraCana comes in.
Company Timeline
Simon Whippy first started working in the field for Vickars Developments as a crew member.
Over the next eight years, Simon advanced to take on supervisory positions at Vickars Developments and started his first structural renovation business.
As part of business succession planning, Simon stepped up to spearhead a new piling installation enterprise known as Vickars Construction Inc. This new endeavour flourished, as helical piles were relatively new to the construction industry in Western Canada and no other companies in the marketplace had Simon's wide-ranging experience.
The company rebranded as TerraCana Foundation Solutions Inc. With the arrival of engineer Rick Bongers, TerraCana was able to provide in-house design services, expand its range of piling solutions, and take on larger and more diverse projects.

Headquartered in Coquitlam, BC, TerraCana delivers foundation solutions across Greater Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and throughout British Columbia — including remote and challenging access sites.
Beyond BC, TerraCana takes on projects across Western Canada and the Yukon. Our equipment fleet and experienced crews are mobilized to wherever the project needs us — from urban infill sites in the Lower Mainland to large-scale industrial projects in Alberta and the North.
Team
We bring years of experience to every project.
Simon founded TerraCana Foundation Solutions in 2006 with a focus on delivering reliable deep foundation work for commercial, industrial, and residential clients across Western Canada. With over 20 years of field and project management experience, he has overseen hundreds of installations — from helical piles and vibro-driven piles to micropiles and underpinning.
Simon holds certificates in Building Code and House Inspection from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and brings hands-on expertise from every level of the business, from site foreman to company leadership.
Rick has been managing piling and engineering projects for over 10 years, leading TerraCana’s technical operations since 2014. He takes the lead on engineering work when projects demand it — allowing TerraCana to offer complete design-build services — and consults with project engineers to find the most practical piling solutions for each site.
Rick holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Carleton University and brings hands-on project management experience from both the private and civil construction sectors.

Most of our work comes from contractors who’ve worked with us before — or who were referred by someone who has.
In-House P.Eng. Design-Build
Most piling contractors install what’s specified. Rick Bongers, P.Eng. means TerraCana can do more — evaluate the design, propose a better solution, get it engineer-stamped, and install it. That capability saves GCs time, cost, and back-and-forth with the engineer of record.
COR Certified Safety
TerraCana holds a Certificate of Recognition — an independently audited safety program that meets BC industry standards and satisfies the safety requirements of major general contractors and public sector clients.
